Mage Takes 11.3% of WoW Forever's Alliance but Only 8.5% of Its Horde

WoW Forever has 113,197 Mage characters, 9.9% of all. Mage ranks fifth on Alliance and ninth on Horde, and its share fell from 10.4% to 9.9% during October.

WoW Forever has 113,197 Mage characters, which is 9.9% of the 1,148,135 characters in the census of October 31, 2026. Mage ranks sixth among classes overall, but its position depends on the faction: fifth on Alliance and ninth on Horde. Six races hold all of its characters, none of those pairings is new in WoW Forever, and its share slipped by 0.5 points during October.

A stronger class on the Alliance side

The Alliance has 62,877 Mage characters and the Horde has 50,320, a gap of 12,557. Mage makes up 11.3% of Alliance characters and 8.5% of Horde characters, a difference of 2.8 points. The class also sits four places higher in the Alliance ranking than in the Horde ranking.

The tilt shows up against the overall population too. The Horde is the larger faction, with 590,412 characters to the Alliance's 557,723, and the Alliance holds 48.6% of all characters. Yet the Alliance holds 55.5% of Mage characters, and the Horde 44.5%.

Which races have the most Mage characters

Skyborne leads with 27,139 Mage characters, 24% of the class. Undead follow with 25,007, or 22.1%, a gap of 2,132. Together these two races account for 46.1% of all Mage characters, one from each faction.

Mage characters by race, October 31, 2026

The two factions divide their Mage characters differently:

  • Alliance: Skyborne has 27,139, Gnome 21,411 and Human 14,327. Skyborne leads Gnome by 5,728 characters.
  • Horde: Undead has 25,007, Orc 12,811 and Troll 12,502. Undead is far ahead of the other two, while Orc and Troll sit only 309 characters apart.

These six races add up to the full count on each side, so the census shows Mage on no other race. None of the six is marked as new in WoW Forever, so this class has no new race pairing to report.

Share of each race tells a different story

Counting characters and measuring how much of a race chose the class give different orders. About a quarter of Skyborne characters are Mages (26%), and the same is true of Gnome characters (25.5%). No other race comes close to those two figures.

Mage share of each race's characters, October 31, 2026

Undead rank second by count, yet Mages are only 12.5% of Undead characters. Troll has the smallest count of the six at 12,502, but the class takes 15.4% of that race, the highest rate on the Horde side. Human has 14,327 Mage characters, more than Orc or Troll, while Mages are just 7.9% of Human characters, the lowest rate of the six.

A small decline over October

Mage stood at 10.4% of all characters on October 1, 2026 and at 9.9% on October 30, 2026, a change of 0.5 points. Each day's share is measured against all characters recorded up to that day. A lower share therefore means Mage became a smaller part of the total. On its own, it does not mean the number of Mage characters fell.

What these numbers measure

These figures count characters, not players, and one player can have several characters. They cover characters the census recorded, at every level, up to the data of October 31, 2026. They show how many Mage characters exist and on which races, but they do not explain why anyone made one.

This post was written automatically from the census data on this site and checked against those numbers before it was published. How the numbers are counted is on the About page.
