WoW Forever has 128,585 Shaman characters, which is 11.2% of the 1,148,135 characters in the census of October 31, 2026. That makes Shaman the fifth most played class overall, but the two factions rank it very differently: it is second on the Horde and eighth on the Alliance.
Six ranks apart between the factions
The Horde has 81,003 Shaman characters, 13.7% of its 590,412. The Alliance has 47,582, or 8.5% of its 557,723. That is a gap of 33,421 characters and 5.2 percentage points, and it leaves the Horde with 63% of all Shaman characters.
The Horde's larger size does not account for the difference. Across all classes, the Horde leads the Alliance by 32,689 characters. Its lead in Shaman characters alone is bigger than that.
One Alliance race, four Horde races
Five races play Shaman, and their counts add up to the class total. Dwarf is the largest by a wide margin, and it is also the only Alliance race on the list, so all 47,582 Alliance Shaman characters are Dwarves.
| Race | Faction | Characters | Share of Shaman | Share of its race |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dwarf | Alliance | 47,582 | 37.0% | 52.6% |
| Orc | Horde | 27,511 | 21.4% | 24.8% |
| Skyborne (H) | Horde | 27,443 | 21.3% | 25.0% |
| Tauren | Horde | 17,010 | 13.2% | 19.2% |
| Troll | Horde | 9,039 | 7.0% | 11.1% |
The Horde's total is spread across four races. Orc and Skyborne (H) are nearly level, only 68 characters apart, and Skyborne (H) has the slightly higher share of its own race at 25.0% against 24.8%. Tauren follows with 17,010 and Troll with 9,039.
Dwarf stands out on both measures. It has 20,071 more Shaman characters than Orc, the largest Horde race for the class. Shaman also makes up 52.6% of all Dwarf characters, more than double the share among Orcs. No other race on the list comes close to that concentration; Troll is the lowest at 11.1%.
No new pairing among them
None of the five race pairings is marked as new in WoW Forever. These five races account for every Shaman character in the census, so the class has no new pairing to report.
A small rise in share
Shaman's share of all characters moved from 11.0% on October 1, 2026 to 11.2% on October 30, 2026, a change of 0.2 percentage points. The class gained slightly over the month, and the movement is small next to the 5.2-point gap between its shares on the two factions.
What the numbers measure
These figures count characters, not players, and one player can have several characters. The census only sees characters that were online and scanned, so it is not a headcount of the people playing. A rank here means a class's position by character count within its faction, or across both factions for the overall rank. A faction share is a part of that faction's characters, while the 11.2% figure is a part of all characters on both sides. The race table uses two more bases: share of Shaman compares a race with the whole class, and share of its race shows how much of that race plays Shaman. The numbers describe what characters exist, and they do not explain why anyone chose them.
