Blizzard's last word on racials before launch came in two blue posts. On October 26, community manager Kaivax added a racial tuning pass to the WoW Forever Beta Development Notes. On October 27, he added three more changes that he said were "intended to be listed" the first time. As of October 29, 2026, those two posts are the latest. Blizzard's forum posts since then cover name reservations and a new player guide, not racials. WoW Forever launches on November 4.
This post lists every race's latest change first, then how each race's kit moved during the beta, since some numbers went up and back down.
Why Blizzard changed racials again
The October 26 notes give the reason. Some players felt the new racial traits were "too generic," and others said some were "objectively stronger than others." Blizzard says it "prioritized racial identity" in the final pass. In practice that means some races will be "slightly more effective than others at certain combat roles." Where it had swapped role- or class-focused racials for generic ones, it is rolling those back.
There is one exception. Weapon specializations, such as the Human's Sword Specialization and the Orc's Axe Specialization, are not coming back. Blizzard says it is "not healthy in the long run for future raid and dungeon loot tables to be evaluated through the lens of 'required' weapon types."

Night Elf and Gnome had no changes in the final pass. The Orc, Troll and Undead changes are the three added on October 27.
Skyborne: Read Leyline and Skysight
The Skyborne have one racial ability that differs by faction. High Order (Alliance) Skyborne have Read Leyline, and Windshaper (Horde) Skyborne have Skysight. Both work the same way after the rework: a short base effect, and a stronger one-hour version if you use the ability at the right spot in the world.
- Read Leyline now raises Mana and Health regeneration by 50% (was 100%) for 15 seconds. It can't be used while Innervate is active, and Innervate replaces it as the stronger effect.
- Attuned: using Read Leyline at a Ley Line also grants Attuned for 1 hour. While Attuned, Read Leyline's bonus goes back up to 100%.
- Skysight now gives 15% movement speed (was 10%) for 15 seconds.
- Charged: using Skysight at an elemental convergence also grants Charged for 1 hour. While Charged, Skysight gives 30% movement speed.
On October 27 Blizzard clarified that both Attuned and Charged persist through death and are removed when you enter a raid.
How each race changed during the beta
Several racials moved twice. Blizzard's big overhaul came in the October 15 notes, and the October 26 pass undid part of it. Here is each race's path through the development notes, oldest change first.
Human
- October 15: Sword Specialization replaced with Ruthless, 2% critical strike chance.
- October 26: Ruthless lowered to 1%. Human Spirit raised to 10% Spirit (was 5%). Sword Specialization stays gone.
Dwarf
- October 15: Earth Fury (2% critical damage and healing) replaced a weapon specialization. Find Treasure also gained a chance to find extra items in most chests.
- October 26: Earth Fury removed and replaced with Artisan's Precision, 1% hit chance with spells and attacks.
Night Elf
- October 15: Quickness's movement speed now stacks with other movement speed increases.
- No change since.
Gnome
- September 24: Eureka changed on every class to a 10% discount on Mana, Rage or Energy abilities.
- October 1: Eureka no longer benefits periodic effects. Channeled spells don't count as periodic.
- October 15: Eureka became an 8-second buff with no charges, with the same effect, and now also benefits Power Word: Shield. It can't be used in stealth or invisibility.
- No change since.
Skyborne
- October 15: Wind-Blessed Haste raised to 3% (was 1%). Read Leyline and Skysight became castable while moving, and Read Leyline's minimum duration rose to 30 seconds (was 20). Walk on Air's cooldown dropped to 90 seconds (was 2 minutes). More Ley Lines and Elemental Convergences were added in most zones.
- October 26 and 27: Wind-Blessed lowered to 2%, and Read Leyline and Skysight reworked into the short and one-hour versions above.
Orc
- October 15: Axe Specialization replaced with Savage, 1% critical strike chance. Blood Fury's cooldown raised to 3 minutes (was 2). Shatter Curse now dispels Curses and Banes instead of granting immunity, and its magic damage reduction fell to 5% (was 15%).
- October 26 and 27: Savage removed and Command re-added (5% Warlock and Hunter pet damage). Blood Fury back to a 2-minute cooldown.
Undead
- September 24: Touch of the Grave no longer breaks crowd control or triggers from spells and abilities that deal no damage.
- October 1: Cannibalize can't be used while you are immune to Physical damage.
- October 8: fixed Will of the Forsaken sometimes not being usable while asleep or charmed.
- October 15: Touch of the Grave got a 30% chance to trigger for casters and 20% for Paladins, Rogues and Warriors, with a 25-second internal cooldown. Will of the Forsaken can no longer be used under Scatter Shot.
- October 27: Touch of the Grave's internal cooldown cut to 15 seconds.
Tauren
- September 24: Cultivation now has a player-level requirement for each herb.
- October 15: Endurance changed to 2% critical damage and healing (was 1% hit chance). Plainsrunning also gave 3% mounted speed and now needs real movement to stay active, so stutter-stepping no longer keeps it up. Cultivation's cooldown dropped to 15 minutes (was 60), and War Stomp's to 90 seconds (was 2 minutes).
- October 26: Plainsrunning doubled to 2% per stack and 60% at most, and the mounted bonus was removed. Endurance went back to 5% Health only.
Troll
- October 15: Regeneration's health regeneration bonus raised to 20% (was 10%).
- October 27: Berserking lasts 15 seconds (was 10).
Four racials went back and forth. Blood Fury went from 2 minutes to 3 and back to 2. Wind-Blessed went from 1% Haste to 3%, then to 2%. Tauren Endurance went from a hit bonus to a critical damage bonus to neither. Plainsrunning's mounted speed bonus was added on October 15 and removed on October 26.
What beta players picked before the final pass
The beta ended before the October 26 changes, so no one has played the final kits yet. The census below shows the races beta players created under the older racials, from the snapshot of October 23, 2026. It counts characters, not players, and one player can have several characters.
| Alliance race | Characters | Share of Alliance |
|---|---|---|
| Human | 180,406 | 32.3% |
| Skyborne (High Order) | 104,439 | 18.7% |
| Night Elf | 98,561 | 17.7% |
| Dwarf | 90,481 | 16.2% |
| Gnome | 83,836 | 15.0% |
| Horde race | Characters | Share of Horde |
|---|---|---|
| Undead | 199,806 | 33.8% |
| Orc | 110,799 | 18.8% |
| Skyborne (Windshaper) | 109,795 | 18.6% |
| Tauren | 88,594 | 15.0% |
| Troll | 81,418 | 13.8% |
The Undead lead the Horde with 199,806 characters, 33.8% of the faction, and the Human leads the Alliance with 180,406, 32.3%. Paladin, a race-and-class pairing new in WoW Forever, is 34.6% of all Undead characters. The race and class table breaks every race down by class. The final pass came after these characters were made, so launch is the first chance to see whether it moves these shares.
