The Alliance and Horde are nearly even in the WoW Forever beta. The census counts 1,072,409 characters across all realms. The Horde has 538,097 of them (50.2%) and the Alliance has 534,312 (49.8%), so the Horde is 0.4 percentage points ahead. Split by ruleset, the picture changes. The Horde leads on PvE realms, the Alliance leads on PvP realms, and both of those leads are bigger than the overall gap.
PvE and PvP realms lean opposite ways
On PvE realms the Horde has 266,761 characters (50.9%) and the Alliance has 257,164 (49.1%). That is a Horde lead of 1.8 points.
On PvP realms the lead goes the other way. The Alliance has 277,148 characters (50.5%) and the Horde has 271,336 (49.5%). That is an Alliance lead of 1.0 point.
| Selection | Characters | Alliance | Horde | Leader |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All realms | 1,072,409 | 49.8% | 50.2% | Horde |
| PvE realms | 523,925 | 49.1% | 50.9% | Horde |
| PvP realms | 548,484 | 50.5% | 49.5% | Alliance |
PvP realms hold slightly more characters than PvE realms, about 548,000 against about 524,000. Even so, the Alliance's lead on PvP realms is smaller than the Horde's lead on PvE realms. Put the two rulesets together and the Horde comes out a little ahead.
How the split has moved across the saved days
The early snapshots favoured the Horde by more than the latest ones do. On September 27, 2026, the census held 142,246 characters and the Horde's share was 51.4%. On September 28, 2026, the total was 221,226 and the Horde's share reached 54%. That was the widest gap in the series, 8 points. By September 29, 2026, the Horde's share had dropped to 52.6%.
On October 4, 2026, with 390,071 characters recorded, the split was 50.6% Horde and 49.4% Alliance. The October 12, 2026 snapshot was the first one with the Alliance ahead. It held 995,142 characters, split 50.4% Alliance and 49.6% Horde. The Alliance held that share on October 13, 2026 and again on the next saved day, with the total at 1,003,125 both times.
On October 15, 2026, the Horde was back in front at 50.2% against 49.8%, with 1,072,409 characters. The total and the split stayed the same on every saved day from then through October 20, 2026. The Horde's share is now 3.8 points below its peak on September 28.
From its widest, 8 points on September 28, the gap between the factions narrowed to 0.4 points as the census grew to about 1,072,000 characters. Since October 12, the lead has changed hands once, and neither side has been more than 0.8 points ahead.
What these numbers measure
These figures count characters, not players. One player can have several characters, on either faction and on either ruleset. The census records every character it has seen since the beta opened, at every level. A share here is therefore a share of all characters ever recorded, not of the people online on a given day. A gap of a fraction of a point means the two factions are close in characters. It does not tell you how many people play each side or how often they log in.
The daily series also shows when the total stopped growing. From October 15 through October 20, 2026, the total and the faction shares did not change, so the latest snapshot has the same split as every saved day since October 15.
